26/06/09: RIP MJ
I don't think anyone was expecting the headlines this week to read "The King of Pop has Died".
It's strange how people react to such news. Normally when someone famous dies, people are sad, but life goes on. As this fella was such an amazing talent, we all forget the controversy Jackson had lived in, and celebrate a remarkable artist.
I was lucky enough to be at the press launch of his O2 shows. Strange now when you remember the hype around the words "this is it". On that stage in front of the world's press he seemed a vulnerable man, but he held all of us, captivated by his "star quality", his mystery, and legendary status. It is so sad that we will not now get to see him perform, but a joy that we will always be able to relive his music.
People are likening this to when Elvis died. I'm far too young to know, but there seems to be a common theme with Kings of Music leaving a lasting memory.
My friend sent me this clip of a young Michael Jackson on Facebook this week... amazing!
