Music stars rally support for Haiti

The likes of Ke$ha, Jay Sean and JLS have been using Twitter as a platform to raise awareness and encourage their followers to donate to those affected by the earthquake in the Caribbean.

Here in the UK, Florence & the Machine has asked for her followers support saying, "people are in urgent need of help in Haiti" and huge global star Janet Jackson has said that her "heart goes out to all those suffering in Haiti. Please join me in giving what u can. If you've already helped, thank u for your generosity."

Some musicians are doing their best to raise money themselves, Jason Derulo donated all proceeds from a gig this week to the relief effort and Lady Gaga will be donating the money made on 100% of merchandise purchased through her website on Sunday 24th January to the cause.

Other chart stars who have been spreading awareness include, Shakira, Pink and Jusin Timberlake, who passed on his condolences to everyone affected by the earthquake as well as providing his fan with a list of ways they can help.

Wyclef Jean has recorded a song entitled 'Hold On Haiti', which he has released online to spread the word.

How to donate

If you would like to help those suffering in Haiti, you can donate through the Disaster Emergency Committee's website or in just a few clicks you can donate through iTunes...

  1. "We are auctioning a set of gold plated golf clubs for the Haiti appeal on eBay and would like some help publicising it. 100% of money raised goes to the charity. If any celebrities would support this it would help hugely to get it noticed. It is now running and ends next Sunday. It can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290401756332&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT "

  2. "I think its a really good idea but rather than just saying please help them they actually should help them and give money like jason derulo or lady gaga! It's really upsetting though so i think they should try so hard and maybe have a whole day where everyone in the world donates money to help at work or school or even at home! we should go non uniform or just normal whatever we can do to help 'em"
