Wheatus land in the iTunes chart

Wheatus' hit 'Teenage Dirtbag' has landed a place in the iTunes chart, nine years after its original release.

The song which featured in the Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari movie 'Loser', was a No. 2 for the American rock band back in 2001 and it's now climbing back up the iTunes chart.

The reason for its mysterious appearance in the top 100 is down to a promotional offer on the download site which is giving fans the chance to grab a copy of the song at a discounted price.

It seems enough people have been downloading 'Teenage Dirtbag' to start it on a climb up the chart and it's at this point that this Wheatus phenomenon has snowballed.

Curious music lovers have taken to Twitter to speculate why the song is back in the chart.  On Wednesday afternoon there was so much discussion about the song that "Teenage Dirtbag" became a top UK Twitter trend.

Take a look at the video for 'Teenage Dirtbag' which features Jason and Mena...

  1. "Its nothing to do with Dirtbag being a promo offer at itunes. The trend started because everyone was talking about the Wheatus tour documentary 'You Might Die' that was shot last year and is due for release this summer. Wheatus are set to record an updated darker version of 'dirtbag' for the soundtrack for 'Invasion of the not quite dead' which begins shooting in Bulgaria soon. "
