This Week's Chart By Numbers (22nd February 2015)
A look at the best highlights from this Sunday's chart.
-
1. Male Vs Female
Looks like the guys are in the lead this week. From the 40 lead artists in the chart, there were 25 male and 15 female. James Bay in particular rose five places to No.19 with 'Hold Back The River'.
-
2. It's all about the solo guitarists.
George Ezra, Ed Sheeran, Hozier and James Bay all made an appearance on Sunday's show. It looks like everyone has a real thing for guitarists at the moment and we can't blame them.
-
3. We're not sure what 'it' is, but we like it.
Whether you doing 'it' with Charli XCX and Rita Ora, shaking 'it' off with Taylor Swift or earning 'it' with The Weeknd, one thing is for sure…it…is…in.
-
4. Kelly Clarkson is back.
The ORIGINAL American Idol debuted her brand new single 'Heartbeat Song' at No.5 on Sunday's countdown. (We get the feeling it will be in the chart for a while).
-
5. Ellie Goulding joins the 1 month club.
Just like Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars before her, Ellie Goulding has now made it an entire MONTH at No.1 with her Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack.
-
-
6. David Guetta has risen
His latest collaboration with Emeli Sande soared to third place after appearing only once before back in November 2014. The song was played during the finale of the live episodes of Eastenders which gave the track a whole new lease of life.
-
7. Thinking Out Loud
Ed's record breaking ballad has now made 33 appearances in the Vodafone Big Top 40, more than any other song in the current chart.
-
8. Florence + The Machine are back
Their new song 'What Kind Of Man' debuted at No.33 this weekend. It has been three years since the release of 'Spectrum (Say My Name)' and we are so glad they have returned.
-
9. Battle of the Swedish DJs
Avicii or Alesso? Who is your favourite. Both 'The Nights' and 'Heroes' are in the top 40 and we're still not sure which one we prefer! Avicii may be 12 places above Alesso but Alesso has been in the charts for a whole month longer…decisions decisions.
-
10. Say Something
Lets not get confused now. Both Karen Harding & LuvBug BOTH have a song called 'Say Something' but when they are both as incredible as each other it really doesn't matter!

11. No.1s
There are currently 5 former No.1s in the top 40. Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me', Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne's 'Real Love', Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass', Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' and Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars' 'Uptown Funk'.
