Olly Alexander hopes to play a "messed-up, gay superhero" in one of his next acting roles.

Years & Years' star Olly Alexander has revealed what he hopes his next acting role will be.

The singer and actor recently played the lead character Ritchie in Russell T Davies' acclaimed Channel 4 show It's A Sin.

Now, Olly hopes to play a character with "magical powers" and ideally it would be a "really messed-up gay superhero."

Olly was speaking to Will Manning on The Official Big Top 40 as his new Years & Years song 'Starstruck' entered the Top 10.

It's the first new song from Years & Years since the band became just Olly's solo music venture.

'Starstruck' climbed to Number 9 on this Sunday's chart as Rag'n'Bone Man and Pink's spent a second week at the top.

Their collaboration 'Anywhere Away from Here' debuted at Number 1 on the UK's biggest chart show last week.
